The joys of summer...
Ah.. long summer days and plenty of sunshine. Not something we have experienced much of in recent years but it has to be said the past few weeks here on Loch Ness have been pretty good ! Many of the garden flowers are in full bloom and sitting out on the verandah in the early evening is lovely - even the midgees seem to be less bothersome!
As for the wildlife, plenty red squirrels around at the moment. In the garden of our house next door to Hazelgrove, we presently have five regular visitors, three of which are youngsters, rushing around chasing each other all over the place all of which is proving mildly intimidating for Coco our cat! She sits for hours in her favourite spot under the shade of a sycamore tree head going back and forth watching the squirrels as they play only a few feet from her. We also had a visit a few weeks ago from a pinemarten, It strolled across the garden early one evening with an egg in it's mouth. We later found the egg shell, no doubt from some poor unfortunate bird's nest, but the pinemarten itself has not been back. And then of course deer.- two weeks ago for the first time in years we had a young roe deer munching it's way through our back garden very close to the house . So much to experience and appreciate at this time of year.
